During the IYI Party Chair Meral Akşener’s visit to Siirt, a city in the southeastern region of Turkey, a shopkeeper told her “The place you are standing right now is ‘Kurdistan’, but unfortunately this ‘Kurdistan’ is being denied in the Parliament.”

On October 28, during the IYI Party Chari Meral Akşener’s visit to Siirt, a city in the southeastern region of Turkey, a shopkeeper told her “The place you are standing right now is ‘Kurdistan’, but unfortunately this ‘Kurdistan’ is being denied in the Parliament.” The chief prosecutor’s office launched an investigation after these words, on the ground of ‘making propaganda for a terrorist organization’. The citizen, Cemil Taşkesen, was detained on October 29, released later on after his statement was taken.

AKŞENER: NO ONE IS DENYING YOU

As a response to Taşkesen’s words, IYI Party Chair Meral Akşener said:

"I am saying, ‘Cemil, in this region, this Anatolian region as a whole, from end to end, there are many ethnic identities, many religions, that is, there are different beliefs in Islam, sects. Are we one, are we whole, in these matters? If you say ‘yes’ to this... No one is denying you. It is impossible for me to accept it as such. This is separation. I cannot accept this."
