Armenian-Turkish journalist Hrant Dink, who was murdered by Ogün Samast on January 19, 2007, was an intellectual, journalist and the editor-in-chief of Agos daily, a major newspaper outlet in Turkey servicing news in Armenian and about the Armenian community. Trial of the murder has not yet been fully concluded in the 13 years passed, while perpetrators of the murder Ogün Samast, Yasin Hayal and Erhan Tuncel are sentenced for their part in the crime. Yasin Hayal, who was a member of the far-right party Greater Union Party BBP (Büyük Birlik Partisi), was involved with the bombing of a McDonald’s branch in Trabzon on October 24, 2004 and with the killing of Priest Andrea Santoro on February 5, 2006, as well as known to have tutored Ogün to commit the murder. A new development recently took place involving the case. Intelligence officer Şeref Ateş, who was on trial in relation to the Hrant Dink’s murder case, was killed by 3 attackers in his car in Düzce on March 12. The three people were arrested due to alleged involvement with the killing of Şeref Ateş.
