On November 10, in Ataşehir district of İstanbul, a man named Göktuğ Boz attacked Başak Cengiz, residing in the same housing estate, with a samurai sword, and seriously injured her. Cengiz was taken to a hospital in Ataşehir, but she died despite efforts to save her life.
The perpetrator Can Göktuğ Boz was caught and detained by the police. In his statement, Boz said that he had planned to kill somebody before living home and that he had decided to kill a woman in case a man might stand up to him.
